Description
Under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) Minimum Requirements Regulations all ships’ cooks and other persons processing food in the galley to be suitably qualified in food hygiene or food safety in catering. No matter the vessel, everyone working in a catering environment onboard a ship must undergo sufficient health and safety training. This qualification course is suitable for all yacht crew, including chefs and stews.
This course aims to equip learners with a knowledge of basic food hygiene practices that are essential while working in a commercial catering environment. It will give them a thorough understanding of how to control common food safety risks. A learner will gain the confidence and expertise needed to deliver quality food to your customers.

If you are involved in food handling or work in a food handling environment; you have a legal obligation to ensure they receive food safety training appropriate to their job role.
Staff members must have a clear understanding of food safety law and the powers of enforcement. They also need to know what to do to prevent the risk of prosecution. People who have eaten food, which has been contaminated, by poor food practices are at risk of suffering from the effects of food poisoning bacteria, with symptoms such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps. Some of these people may even die.
Failing to comply with these regulations, can carry heavy penalties in the way of fines, poor staff morale, loss of business, a bad reputation and possibly even imprisonment. Attendees successfully gaining this qualification will know that food safety is the responsibility of everyone involved in the storage, preparation, cooking, service and handling of food. Its topics are regarded by the Foods Standards Agency as being important to maintaining good practice in the production of safe food

Who is the course suitable for?
